Well there goes the back window

So it was a warmer day here in colorado (55 degrees) and i thought a little wash wax and top down driving was in order, after getting her all cleaned at the wash i decided to put the top down, in the process of folding it down i hear this crack! i pulled it back up to see that the rear window plastic had gotten so brittle it just cracked.... Bummer, not that this is a big deal the top needs to be replaced anyway but just wondering if it was the old plastic or possibly recent cold weather we had that did it in?

Thanks guys....

It was a combo of both old plastic and cold weather.
Same thing happened to mine.

I put my top down during the middle of the day when the plastic was warm with no problems.
Left the top down overnight in the garage... in the morning... put the top up and CRACK!!!
Big ole hole!

My new top is sitting in the garage. Hope to get it put on once the car gets out of the body shop.
This time I went with a glass top and see how that will work.

hey man i just threw away my old top for a new one from topsonline.com THIS TIME i went with a glass window and I LOVE IT it's so much nicer, more modern looking, gives the car a nice accent. and now that the windows are tinted it makes it even nicer.

i would recomend topsonline.com to ANYBODY looking for a new top for their 3rd gen. the only problem i had with them was them sending the wrong top the first time around (plastic window) but other than that i finally got the right one and it looks sexy

i'll have pics up right after christmas cuz i'm getting a camera for a present

I'll ditto that Blue...
I got mine from topsonline as well and it looks REALLY nice.
I've read in other posts that you had problems in the shipping dept with them. I got mine through EBAY from them and it was perfect the first time around.

From my research.... there are only two companies that actually aftermarket the tops. And from memory... topsonline is acting as a middle man. But their prices are better than the rest for the same product.

When I won the auction... I called them and they said it would have to be made since they carry no stock on these.

I bought my top in February of this year and I can't remember who it was that actually made the top. It was on the shipping label.

I bought the top for $400 and was saving up the money to have it installed... when the accident happened in June.

Hopefully I get my car back either this week or next.
Not much damage... just a heck of a time finding parts.

Once I get it back... she goes into the shop for the new top since my rear window is still fragged out.
Then back again for new interior.

yea i wasnt real sure about ordering the top with the glass because A: it's smaller in the back and B: if that rear glass breaks its a new top all over again, but the fact that the glass wont yellow up almost seems as if it's worth the investment, you'd just have to be uber careful.....

Actually,
I have not heard anyone breaking the glass as of yet.
I know a few members on here who went with the glass.

The guy from topsonline told me that you have to help the window build a memory as to where it should fold the first few times you put the top down. After that.... done deal... folds just like the plastic top.

Visability is reduced... I do agree with that. But then again... rag top camaros have a huge blind side when the top is up anyway. I've learned to use only my side mirrors when backing up.

And I agree with Bluezee on the new top having a more modern look. Can't wait to see some of those pics.
Hurry up and open your Christmas present so we can see some pics.
