my vert is getting close! It officially drives again and the interior is starting to go back together.

That's what I've been saying for years - the way to go is to do the full swap including the wiring instead of trying to make it work with the stock wiring..
I did that myself to another car (not thirdgen, but a very similar swap) and I just spliced in the headlights/taillights and was good to go. Everything worked.
Keep it up man, looking forward to see the end result!!
