I'm thinking everyone is going to say that their own car is the best convertible
This is a very biased thread
With that being said...my convertible is the best

Thanks Blue.
I am planning to do the tan top once this one wears out. The good and bad of it is that the top is practically brand new. It was put on just before I purchased the car this past April. Window tint is on the list, however the windows and top are both very rarely up so neither is a priority

I don't find it hard to see out of at all. When looking in your rear view mirror, nothing obstructs your view. It's smaller than the original plastic window, but it's not REALLY small. I think it's perfect. Here's a picture to show what size it is.

I nearly bought a set of 18" Z06 wheels before I found my ZR1's at a friend's house. VERY NICE!

I must admit that most people would prefer the car they own... Take me for example, I own an 89 Formula 350 convertible ( 1 of 42 )... I would not trade it for a Trans Am Convertible or a Z28 convertible, the ONLY 3rd gens I would consider trading it for EVEN UP would be a TTA a 91-92 Firehawk, or possibly an all original 92 Heritage Z28 1LE COnvertible (like that exists)... and I would struggle with doing so...

ive had it for 2 years, i've spend a good bit of money on it and every time i get ready to finnish it i run into another problem and just want to sell the car, but then i start loving it againand the process starts over. when i got the car it looked basicly like yours until i started my body work. now its black primer. and doesnt look like ill do anything else to it until next year. in 2 years i drove it like 600 miles, and 70 of them were getting it home. i had parts sitting around for it and ended up selling some of them cause i know i'll never get around to putting them on. one day it will be done, but until then im going to work on other things.
I love your Z convertible, one of my favorite i've ever seen. one day mine will be back to blue.

I bought my top from Convertible tops, geo metro convertible, auto headliners, bmw m3 convertible, karmann ghia It's the black "stayfast" top which is the equivalent to the factory canvas. It has the glass window in it also. It cost me $400 and a local shop installed it for $250.

ROLL BAR IN 87 VERT
I've got a custom built Roll bar for a convertible that I'm not going to use anymore. I built it to run my car in NASA HPDE events, but built it to the race specs. So its .120 DOM tubing. 4 point bolt in, but could easily be converted to a 6 point weld in, if you desired. I paid over $600 for it, but make me an offer and its yours. Its been used for 3 weekend events and is powder coated black. I have 5 point belts as well that could go with it, that have been used once RCI latch type. Its custom built just for a 3rd gen convertible.

I've tried to stop posting so freaking many pictures. You know the only reason I used to be such a picture ***** is becuase last year I was in engineering school and I had nothing better to do with my time than take pictures. Everyone else at school was either A) drunk or B) playing world of warcraft
You know how much props you get for doing that car the right way
That thing is going to be pimptastic when you're done

Did that 89 Formula come from the factory with a 350 engine? Is it Carb'd or Fuel Injected? What's the rated HP? Auto or 5-Speed?

No kidding... Chevy never put a 350 engine in a vert, but it seems that Pontiac did.... I would have never guessed. So does that 1 of 42 built mean that 42 verts got the 350's in them?

I thought you might assuem that after I posted.
From 1970 thru 1990 model years Pontiac did not technically offer a Firebird Convertible, Since there was some interest in getting a car built you could special order them through a participating dealership.
You would walk into a dealership and order the car of your choice, The dealer would then order the car as a T-top and then drop ship it to ASC to be converted, from there the car would be delivered to the dealership. 1989 was the only year that Pontiac Offered a 350 T-top car* unlike the Camaro where it was more redily available in 87 & 88. I am unaware of any 350 T-top pontiacs in those years.
*NOTE: (except for 91 & 92 where it was a Formula only option)
Basically it is 1 of 42 Formula 350 Convertibles ever made, and it is 1 of about 200 Total Firebird Convertibles which were equiped with a 350, most of which were GTA's I would suspect that there are even fewer Trans Am 350 Convertibles in 1989 than Formulas.
From one standpoint the car was never sold as a T-top car, and was bought new as a Convertible, it followed the same path as its sister car the Camaro when it was converted. Recalls, and maintenence could be taken care of directly through the dealership like a Camaro, replacement Parts could be ordered just like a Camaros, since they shared so many parts. To my knopwledge all of the parts on the car have an original GM part number except the fender caps.
From another standpoint the car was not "Official" because Pontiac did not offer it within their standard dealer books, or brochures. Nor does it have the RPO or VIN to identify it as a Convertible. Oddly enough the DMV recognizes the car as a Convertible even though I never informed them it as such.
Nonetheless, I would not trade it for any factory authorized Camaro Convertible.
In so many ways It is no different than owning an SLP equipped Camaro or Firebird which were modified by the dealer, and to some historians is just as factory as any other car. Or you can compare it to a Yenko Camaro which to my knowledge were modified at The Yenko Dealership.
