Is it worth it????

I might have the chance to trade my 1993 Cavalier Z24 Convt. for a 89 Camaro Convertible that needs a transmission. Now, I am doing the t56 on my 87 camaro which means I'll have a free 700r4 for the rebuilding. I dont have all the details as of yet on the car, but it looks to be an I-Roc vert. I will know very shortly as the car is owned by the brother of a friend. thanks for the opinions. KBB says my cavalier is worth about 2,150 in good condition, and the Camaro vert is worth about 2,410 in fair condition.

Assuming you have the skill/time/money for the tranny fix, I say definatly worth it. I love my '89 vert.

As the owner of a 3rd gen vert, YES it's worth it!
Even if KBB says that your Cavy is worth slightly more, think about this...3rd gens have a MUCH bigger group of followers than old Cavaliers. You would be hard pressed to find someone hardcore into Cavaliers to pay what you want for that car, where as a convertible 3rd gen you will find that people will be begging you to sell it to them!

This is what I thought. Now, despite what you may think the old V6 Z24 cavaliers do have a big follwing and they are pretty bitchin. Check out V6Z24.com to see what I mean. But that is besides the point. I do have the time/skill/money for the tranny swap. i mean comeon, im doing the t56 in my 87 camaro! I will get info ASAP and post it up here but no matter what it is its still a 3rd gen vert. how about this though, its unlikely, but what if it is a 2.8/3.1?

Actually, the 3rd gen camaro vert is worth more in fair condition, then mine in good condition!! good > fair

Well if it's an IROC-Z then it's going to have a V8 in it. Just ask the guy if it's an RS or an IROC-Z. Even if it's a V6, you can always do a motor swap later on down the road

I still say sure! I'd rather be driving a 6-banger Camaro than a Cavalier... but that's just me.

get it, they are getting rarer with each passing year. How many IROC verts do actually see every summer? Good Luck on the purchase!

i own a 2.8 hard top and while i'll get smoked by an iroc its still fun to drive and the v6 tends to corner better, i guess less weight for g forces to push, but either way you can turbo with all the extra room or do an engine swap later. either way they are pretty hard to find and always demand attention, especially of other camaro owners. I would kill to have a vert over my hard top. deffinately get it, its well worth it and for some reason if you dont like it with a nice paint job and a good top they sell for upwards of 10,000. I've seen the v8s sell on here for over 15,000 so even if you just want to get rid of it drop an engine and get it painted, its worth the money.

Here are the details on the car.....

Its a 1991 Z28 Convertible
700r4 with shiftkit, rebuilt and has 7k on it.
Engine has 58k on it ....its a 350 and runs but has blowby, meaning its gonna need piston rings (right?)
Has leather interior and fully loaded
it has 373 rear end

The car is about one of 3400

And here is the car im thinking about trading for it

Its a 1993 Cavalier Z24 Convertible
Has the 3.1l v6 with 92k on it
Has the TH125 3 speed tranny with 10k on it
The body is in pretty good shape for the year, no serious rust on it
Has a new top (power top with glass, defroster)
Has new Flowmaster exhaust system and C.A.I.
Its really a nice car that ive had alot of fun with...

So now that you see the details, is it worth it????

How many miles on the body? THe engine has been replaced if its a 350. I hope they kept the TPI.

I think its almost a no brainer if its in good shape.

BTW, I am not sure what the difference is, everyone tells me nothing but from 83-89 or 90 the 4 speed trans was called the 700R4, starting in either 90 or 91 the designation change to 4L60 (not to be confused with the 4L60E which were electronic shift).

OK, I didnt confirm it was a 350, he said it was a Z28 so i should have said its most likely a 305. As for the transmission I have the 87 Camaro and I just got so used to calling the transmisison a 700r4 i didnt even think about it but yes, i guess it has the 4l60 in it then.

58k on body, paint is in OK shape
