Need help to ID a convertible
Here is a vert I am looking at and it looks to be an IROC but the top looks odd. Also the guy says it has a manual top. The year is listed as a 1988.
I'm going to ask for the VIN and option codes.
Can anyone provide me a little background as to what I should be looking for to make sure I get a legitimate convertible and not one that is a budget made convertible?
I have a 87 IROC but I am not up on the verts info/history.
Thanks

Re: Need help to ID a convertible
It's a ASC (aka factory) convertible. There should be a sticker on the drivers-side door panel that says ASC. That's the good news. Convertible-specific parts are hard to come by, especially the interior trim pieces such as the piece between the top latches. Make sure all these parts are in place and hopefully in good shape.

Re: Need help to ID a convertible
looks to be an ASC conversion convertible, On the inside of the driver door their should be a sticker about ASC Conversion. Also the vin should read 1g1fp3 if im not mistaken, on being a convertible from the factory (i.e. GM slated to be converted to a convertible.) not an aftermarket conversion...
Also, the top looking like it does, may be missing a bow, or some support from the inside... other than that, and those wheels, looks like a tru vert.

I agree with it looking like an ASC top.
Also agree with a missing, bent/broken center bow. The back window also looks in bad shape. Plan on spending some serious cash to fix these issues as parts are not cheap(when you can find them).

Well there then you have it.. its a 3rd gen vert from the factory, with a missing or bent bow. The tops are fairly cheap, its the labor to put them on and the weatherstripping that will eat you alive.
Not to mention finding a new bow, or fixing the one you got if there is one.
Good luck though! other than the top and wheels, looks like a good start to me!

I may be able to help with the bow. I'll check tomorrow if I have one.

Re: Need help to ID a convertible
I can get one and some other parts if you need them. I am buying the side pieces from a top and he will have more left. not sure what yet and if your trim piece is like an 87 I have a decent looking one. it has a couple cracks where the screws are under the handles but all the plastic is there so it isn't noticable once installed. LMK what you need I can post a pic of the trim piece if you need it.
