Opinion needed, How much is a '91 Z28 5 speed convertible worth?

I have an opportunity to buy a 1991 Camaro Z28 convertible. Its an original 5 speed car but the engine has been swapped out with a motor out of an '89 Iroc(according to the current owner). The Odometer shows around 160K. Its going to need a bit of work(including a new top and top frame or at least the frame repaired, interior work, and hail damage repair). The floors and spare tire well are not rusted out but as typical the rear bumper impact bar is but its a bolt on part so not a big deal). I ran a CarFax on the car and it comes back clean. I am just wondering the rarity of a 5-speed Z28 convertible compared to an automatic and how that really affect how much its worth. Any input would be helpful.

I'd jump on it, simply because its a t5 z28.. a z28 will always be worth more than an rs.. but the big question is is it reasonable.. i mean can you jump on it for a good price.. if so, and your up to the work of a partial or total restore, then do it. the 5speed cars are rare. add that to a convertible, and youve got something real rare on your hands.

The guy was asking $3800 but I've got him down to $2500 so far. I don't have any problems with restoring the car, I've done a couple in the past but for what it is, I think that $2500 is still a little high(I paid much less for the RS convertible I have and it was in similiar condition when I got it) so how much does the T-5 actually add to the value of the car? Does anyone know any production numbers for teh '91 Z28 convertible T-5 cars? Its original black with gray leather.

that 91 sounds like its my car exactly, but with a 5 speed. I dont know if there were exact production numbers or not of the convertibles, but i know in 91 there were only 3203 or so made total. so, im sure that out of those 3203 z28s made, prolly less than half were 5 speeds.. if not more like 25% of them.. thats my best guess though.

Getting him down from3800 to 2500 is a great deal. I dont know if he'll budge more.. guess it depends on him and your discussion good luck.

Hey Perry, if you decide to pass on it, will you let me know? I'd like to buy another one and am pretty damn close to St Louis.

Hi, actually I think I am going to pass on it(have too many cars right now and not enough time to work on them). I did talk the guy down to $2000 delivered(he was about a half hour north of me). If you decide to get it I would recommend planning on towing it back, the steering column is loose(the wheel wobbles more than the typical tilt problem and feels very unsafe going down the road). The car will need completely gone through in my opinion. I caught the guy in a couple of lies when we went to look at it so I would only go by what the car actually is and not what he says(The carfax shows one collision in the front but I didn't see where there would have been any frame damage but the guy insisted at first that the car had never been wrecked and then when I told him about the CarFax he said that there was some old lady crossing the street and he barely tapped her and knocked her down(total story I'm sure). Anyways, if interested PM me and I'll give you his contact info.

Re: Opinion needed, How much is a '91 Z28 5 speed convertible worth?

Hi, I decided that in all honesty I just have too many projects right now to take on another(even though the price I got him down to is hard ot pass up). I have 5 Camaros right now that I'm working on so I'm on thin ice with my wife as is. I have a couple for sale so if one sells soon I might reconsider but the car would be a long term project in my opinion.

My feelings exactly but I decided I'm going to sell all of mine but one or maybe two and focus on getting them done and then start building the collection again as time and parking allow.

well im almost at the point now where none will be sold. .the only one i'd consider selling is the 67, and thats only so i could get one in better shape.. I do need an early 2nd gen to complete the generations, but other than that im set.
