Convertible top questions

I have read many threads here and was wondering how many companies made the convertible conversion for the F-bodies? Which conversion is most desirable to have? Did GM ever make convertibles on production lines?

Re: Convertible top questions

I believe it was 2 or 3 companies doing conversions. ASC is the more reknowned company that made the dealer cars out of t-top models. I'd say 98% of the convertibles you will see are ASC converted. In my opinion they are the best but that is because I have the belief that GM asked them to do the conversions because they were simply the best.

And no, they weren't made at the GM plant, they were made originally as a hardtop or ttop car and then shipped to ASC to be converted and then hauled off the your local Chevy dealer.

ASC
Matrix

I think coochoo(sp?) customs did some.

ASC is the one that was autorized by gm to do several models.. including f-bodys. This is the one you will see the most of and likely to find parts for.

Re: Convertible top questions

Thanks for the info, Mine was made by ASC 12/87 acording to the sticker I found in the drivers door. At least I'll be able to find parts in the future should I need them.

Re: Convertible top questions

That's going to be a very important factor. I'm actually considering ordering a new top for my ride even though my current original one is just fine. Then just putting the spare top safely away. I plan on keeping my ride for a longggggg time and eventually passing it down to my son (who's now 2 months old). Having the spare top 20-30 years from now might come in handy.
