I wasted $600 to go buy it, I only looked it over for two minutes and saw that it has been hit on both sides of the car the car has been undercoated and has a big dent in the floor.
this guy said that he never knew the car was hit but I e-mailed from another e-mail and he said that it was never hit and this is after i saw the car and showed him where it was hit.
I know if I would have looked some more I would have found I alot more wrong with this car. and who know what else this guy is lying about

Whitey,
I to had exchanged e-mails and i had him send me a bunch of pics and by the look of them something just didn't seem right. He told me the car just needed a few little things. First pics showed the rust around the wheel wells which he told me he just noticed. You just never know. I was about to fly out and take a look at this car. Thanks or the post.

Re: stay away from this one
It depends on who you call "They"
"They" as in ASC, who made all of the official Convertibles, made about 200 L98 verts, Mostly Firebirds in 1989, 42 Formula 350's and 139 GTA's In 1989. As for the Camaros the best numbers I have come up with so far was 4 of them in 1987.
"They" as in GM, Chevrolet or Pontiac technicaly made Zero Convertibles, but they offered a convertible for customers thru ASC who did the conversion for them. These cars had a VIN of 1G2F?31... (Firebird) and 1G1FP31... (Camaro). If you look at the VIn you will see that it is 1G2FW21, thus a 2 = a coupe. What I have read and from talking to people in the industry the only reason why GM offered the convertible was to simplify the ordering process. The reason why they did NOT offer the convertible with a 350 was due to fuel economy. THUS why in 1987 the LB9 was ONLY available with the M5 transmission in its "Official" form, it was the only way not to get hit with Gas Guzzler tax. Interestingly ASC did dealer conversions prior to the official convertible release and for the first year of production for the Camaro convertible 1987, and for Pontiac 1987 - 1989. Again I suspect this was all an attempt to bypass the fuel efficiency ratings until they got the engime management systems better. ASC to my knowledge only did conversions on NEW cars prior to their delivery to the dealer who ordered the car.
So in short the car in quesiton was not a car offered via PONTIAC, it was offered thru dealer channels and was sold as a convertible NEW. ASC converted these cars next to and the the same as the Factory verts.
Make sence?

Re: stay away from this one
I would like to add that the seller sais less than 50 GTA convertibles... Obviously there were more than that I have the ASC order list print out from 1989, Granted its a copy, but so far it has been 100% accurate, FROM ASC I have 22 cars recorded and they have all been on the list, no one has given me a VIN which was not on the list so I feel rather confident at this point that its accurate. The 50 number I am not entirely sure where it came from, ASC may have released it as I have a very official looking document stating that there were only 10 Formula 350 convertibles made but in fact I have 42 that I have found from the list so far. I have 15 VINS which I have yet to verify as they were never titled in the US or have fallen off the planet as far as Carfax & Autocheck are concerned.
just a note.
From the pics you sent me I would agree with you. The car looks pretty nice but its worth around $5000, it will take a lot of effort to get it up to a point of really nice condition.

Re: stay away from this one
I'd like to set the record straight as the owner of this car. My family has owned the car for 18 or so years and the car has not been in an accident or been modified in any way. Besides 18 years of wear, it is the same as the day it was purchased by my family. Due to the buyers feedback, I've done research on this site and with certified experts. I've found that these VIN#'s could be installed in such a way that the car fender would almost have to be removed to see it. As for the poor buyer, I told him what I knew about the car. The surface rust I admit was missed by me, but I don't believe that changed our agreed to price. I said in the listing that the car needed some repairs. It still worth what he and I agreed to. FYI - I've included information about this surface rust in my recent listing and have offered pics to those who were interested. And to his claims about the supposed two accidents, how am I to take the word of somebody I never met as the Gospel. Especially when I've known the car for 18 years and that it was purchased from a well known dealership. Would any of you out there take a strangers word about your car? I know this car is not perfect but to the right person its worth close to what I listed it for. What is funny to me is that this "expert" who has gone to all these lengths to make sure nobody in the free world will buy this car, still offered to buy it as he was driving back. Like I said, its worth something to somebody.
http://www.gtasourcepage.com/modelfeatures.html - info on the number produced. This is where the number 50 came from.
In closing, this will be my only post regarding this situation. It was an unfortunate situation for all involved. But at NO time was this an attempt to scam this "buyer" or others. I simply wanted to sell the car to someone who wanted to enjoy it for a fair price.

Re: stay away from this one
Carfax/Autocheck do not know EVERYTHING (not everything gets reported) & commonly miss reported stuff anyways.
I have a 89 GTA hood, on my 87. By Carfax shows show accident. I have extra GTA hood, hatch & doors, I could swap them on & Carfax would never know. Shoot, they are even white, so the aged white paint would even match!
Besides that, a shopping cart denting a fender & you replacing it...replacing the doors. Does that mean the car had an "accident"? Small dings & such don't qualify as "accidents" to me.
Just saying,.....Just because the car has a new part, not everything qualifies as an accident...easy for the agencies information to be wrong, or the owner to fix it outside of insurance.

Re: stay away from this one
Actually the front fender VIN decals can be sometimes located up and out of the way to where you really cannot see them unless you take the fender off. I have found them way up high or behind things that you really cannot see them, like the horns, or the Battery blocks your view.
The rear decals are sometimes painted over with Black as when ASC did the conversion they painted Black inside the fenders to rust protect some of the work they did with no regard to the decal. I took some Acetone and with a cottom swab I removed what I could without making the decal unreadable.
