T5 swap or not?

well i lose 3-4 clutch packs in my 700r4 the other day. a local shop said id be looking at $1500 for it to get completely fixed. i was thinking a few hundered, so now im thinking about finding a donor car for a t-5 swap. if im going to spend the money, why not make the car more fun to drive.

but will i be hurting the value of my car. its a 1992 Z28 convertible w/49k miles on the clock. its going to need a complete paint job and a fresh interior anyways. I plan on keeping the orig tranny, but not fixing it.

should i do it?

anyone know where i can find a good donorcar for cheap?

i'm all for the T5 swap. you'll be so glad that you did it. nothing beats cruising in a vert driving stick. it took me so long to find mine but it was well worth the wait and hassles when i got it. plus your putting an interior and repainting - a perfect time to do the swap.

Re: T5 swap or not?

I had a world class T5 in my second gen. They are a very nice shifting trans, I was just worried about durability as I build the car up, so I swapped it out to a 700R4. If you like driving stick, do the T5 swap. I can go either way. I appreciate the auto on the drag strip, and in traffic.

Re: T5 swap or not?

I'm still working on the t5 swap for my 91 vert. I have an extra complete swap but you're a little too far away and i'm sure shipping would be $$$$

Re: T5 swap or not?

I swapped my 700R4 for a t-5 in my 91 RS, I was tired of having trouble with the autos... Total cost was about 400 bux for everything... i went to the junkyards about 3 times a week for about 4 months... and right when my 700 took a crap again I happened to go to a new junkyard and they had one, for all the swap stuff it was like 250 or something, and then a new clutch... it was well worth it in my car(91 RS hardtop with 140k on it), I just bought a 91 RS Vert with high mileage on the body and am doing a LS6/4l60e swap into it...but like you said you have a very rare/low mileage car... I think if it were me I would keep it stock, clean it up and fix the trans... but if you are not going to sell it do what you want to it, I never plan on selling mine so when ppl tell me I am destroying the value of my vert with swapping engines I just laugh, I am not doing it to get extra cash out of it.

Hope that helped a little
