Re: 89 iroc vert on20 inch alpinas
I'm not a big fan of 20's on third gens. But those dont look that big? It actually looks okay. I myself would'nt go bigger then 18's tho. Here in Los Angeles people throw big rims on everything!!! ridiculous dude.
Re: 89 iroc vert on20 inch alpinas
Those rims don't look bad. I thought they were going to look out of place, but they look good. Does it sit up high like a truck? How does it look from another angle?

the thing is that 20" wheels are ok on cars with big tire OD.
on a b-body, with a 28" tire diameter, 20" wheels look fine because you still have 4-5 inches of tread on each side. you can run 40 series tires and be ok.

I think it looks fine but it needs dropping 1-2" to make it better. Would hate to imagine the drivability after that though.
Re: 89 iroc vert on20 inch alpinas
I never liked 20" wheels on 3d gen , just too big , always prefer maximum 18" or may be 19" , yours actually look better than most 20" wheels I have seen on convertibles. but they also look a little retro.
look at the attched 2 pics and notice how 20" look out of place while 18" are just about perfect.
I always thought original IROC wheels are the coolest especially 85-87 but if u want to go for bigger wheels then low profile tires are a must.

IMO both of those are too big, lol, I wouldn't go bigger than 16s,
but I hate big rims and love rubber, I plan on putting some 15s on my car lol. Member

20"s look a little monster truckish to me. But I guess it's unique??

IMO the style is fine (always liked Alpinas) but 20" is too big.. 18's are as big as I would go.

Re: 89 iroc vert on20 inch alpinas
I love the car! Triple black is hard to beat. The rim is nice but it raises the car up off the ground which I don't like...I'd like it a lot more if it was dropped 2", after that I might be satisfied or I might try to sell them and get the exact same rim but in a 18X9" size. That will also drop the car down an inch. Love the car! take care.

Re: 89 iroc vert on20 inch alpinas
I think there are other BMW wheels that look much better on a 3rd gen than the ones you are using. And I tend to agree that 20" wheels are way too big on our cars. 18" is probably the biggest I would go. But the most important thing is that anytime you put bigger wheels on your 3rd gen, bigger brakes are an absolute MUST! In the picture of the black IROC convertible with the 20" chrome IROC replica wheels, you can't hardly see the brake rotors in the front because they're so incredibly small. You've got to put big brakes behind big wheels otherwise it's going to look cheap and wimpy and look like you don't know what you're doing.

I don't like them but it's my opinion. A lot of people will like 'em and some will hate 'em. Kinda like my paint job. :O

Re: 89 iroc vert on20 inch alpinas
It's the stance not the wheel that usually make the problem. If the gap between the fender and wheel up front was closed up, and the same in the rear it wouldn't be bad. I say keep em.
