Need input on buying a roll bar/cage

I'm looking into possibly getting a 6pt roll bar and was poking around on google looking for places that make them for a 3rd gen convertible. I found this site, but wasn't sure if anyone here had bought anything from them. They're prices are dirt cheap which would be a good or a bad thing. What do you think?

Re: Need input on buying a roll bar/cage

they use good piping, and if u do the welding urself or by someone u trust then there should be no issues.. i liked what they did with there mustang vert on the page. but i would want mine changed around a lil bit.. ive always wanted to have that feeling of safety of having that metal bar behind me as i was driving my vert.. please let me know how it goes.. are u trying to keep ur backseat open?..

Call S&W Race Cars. They make great stuff at a fair price. They are located in Pennsylvania, they made a 4th gen vert cage and it was beautiful to install, and I have used many of there 3rd gen cages. Good luck

i bought mine thru S&W. i got the bent door bars and swing out kit.

i plan on putting mine in over my thanksgiving vacation.

my biggest hold up is where im going to put the back bars. i want the vert top with the glass window, but im not sure exactly where it will lay when its folded down.

Re: Need input on buying a roll bar/cage

I talked with a builder in SantaCruz (Blaine Fab http://www.blainefabrication.com/ ) that specializes in 3rdgen/4thgen race cars (not drag cars though) and he mentioned that he'd build the main hoop from larger than required 2" DOM tubing since the car has absolutely no roof structure. I trust his suggestion. Although it's hard finding a place that has dies for 2" tubing. Even Art Morrison (which is local to me!) said they didn't have them that big. Blaine fab quoted me a decent price for the 2" hoop bent for a thirdgen truck freighted to me (I seem to recall $300?). If you went that route and the standard comp engineering 6pt downtube kit any competent welder could put it together for you. That's actually my winter project. Mine won't be NHRA approved though because I'll have the door bars down low and reinforced along the rocker.

blue zee,

when you get your carpet out, can you post a pic with the top laid down.?it looks like i can put the back bars almost over top of the shock mounts without the glass window being a issue.

Probably won't be for a long time. Since I broke my 10 bolt this summer I realize that I need a good rear end before I need a 6 point roll bar.

Damn, you're one of the few people on the board that actually does what they're talking about. I was hoping to see a cage/bar in a 'vert.

Haha thanks! It will get done someday. I first mentioned my plan for an ls1 back in 2006 and didn't do it until the end of 2009

I'm gonna start working on a high rise spoiler for the car this winter though, so that should be pretty cool.

Re: Need input on buying a roll bar/cage

look for pic's of how I did both of my cars. Top went down find. Hoop was from a normal 3rdgen kit. sides and back bars were custom done.

Doing the same style back bars on my current vert. but normal side bars bent for clearing door panels

hi chris
i still have the pics you emailed me. i just want to make sure that a glass window top will fold down without touching the bars.

i believe blue zee has a rear glass window.
