Thanks!

Here's what the stripes look like with the tape pulled back (except for the plate for the convertible top pin). I can't show you the hood publicly for another 2 weeks though.

It really pops in the sun with the chameleon mixed in. This is before any buffing too:

He's on it frequently but never logs in and posts. Haha

Notice the lack of orange peel in the paint

How did he manage to avoid orange peel? What kind of gun does your buddy use?

Lots and lots of sanding, in between coats of clear as well as after the final coat. He uses a gravity feed, not sure of the brand.

The gun isn't what keeps you from getting orange peel, it's how much and how well you sand and buff it.

The gun has a decent amount to do with orange peel. A cheap gun will lay the paint very bumpy where a good gun will lay it flatter. Granted you will always get some degree of orange peel but it's lesser with a better quality gun.

Re: new convertible project: purple haze/silver Z03 LT1/T56 Z28 heritage car

It's the factory Purple Haze/Hawaiin Orchid, depending on where you get it it's called both from what I've seen. Then for every quart of the original color there is 6oz of House of Kolor's Chameleon added to it. It's a custom mix, no name for it. The car will be called PurpleZee28 though!

We are leaving Friday morning at 6:00am to go pick up the car.

In the meantime, here's a few more teasers to show off his talent. No orange peel!

Re: new convertible project: purple haze/silver Z03 LT1/T56 Z28 heritage car

Can't wait to see the finished product. Next time you put it in a car show, video tape it so we can check it out! lol

on another note, I just picked up that Teal 92 Z28 roller you saw on here the other day. I picked up a 91 5.7 TPI and tranny about a year ago with 80,000 miles and will be putting it in it this weekend. Can't wait to get it running. going to be selling my 91 RS convertible to raise some money for summer car expenditures.. lol and a trip to St. Louis this summer.
Thanks again for the updates on Purple Haze.. Stone

You're coming to STL? You should swing by and check out the car while you're here if you have time.

Hi-res pictures (shrunken down from Photobucket though...)

This will be the same theme when I get my car painted in the hopefully near future, except mine will be blue (of course) and instead of 25th on the blister it will say Z28.

Landon did a good job. I like that "raw painted" look to the stripes. These cars really look great in purple. My car will also be purple soon, but a different color from this car.

That 25th on the blister is exactly what GM should have done. How did you do that? I got a purple 92 Z28 t-top car I would like to do that to.

So let me get this straight. You have a blue vert that is completely done and now you have a purple vert that is all but perfectly re-done. There is something about this that is inherintly unfair. It took me from 1987 till 2008 to find a 92 triple black vert that wasn't junk and close enough to go get and I still don't have it finished and you have two perfect verts. Im doing something wrong.

No, mine needs a paint job desperately (original). Your blue is still extremely shiny and I can't find a flaw in it. You guys are definately perfectionist. So, the son has the blue one and father has the purple one. I have a purple one (original paint) and two black ones but I always drive the vert. Your dad looks to be from my generation (80s) back when all the rock bands look like girls but would still kick your ***. I can remember having my iroc on the parking lot trying to pick-up some hot girl and seeing three more to try for if she said no. Today I never see any young people cruise or hang out with there cars anywhere. How do you guys meet girls these days; the internet.

Mine definitely has flaws.

Mine has a bunch of small door dings, saggy doors, and the paint has rock chips and swirl marks, showing its age.

Dad is 50, im 25 and been married for 3 years, not sure how most people meet girls these days since i havent needed to look since my senioryear of high school haha

Re: Paint is done (pg 2) - Purple haze/silver Z03 LT1/T56 Z28 heritage car

I live in a small town in south central Arkansas and in the 80s untill the mid 90s there would be an ocean of cars and people on the walmart parking lot on friday and saturday night. About 3 miles away was a 4 lane on a backwater highway where we would go racing. I didn't know how good we had it. They have summer cruises around here in Benton and Little Rock but other than that not much car action. I had an 81 Z28 that I still have that I had a wicked 350 in and ruled Malvern for six years. I had a gorgeus blond girlfriend that was a part time stripper. I had another girlfriend that was a descendant of Billy the kid. I actually got to race a cop car one night with a cop I went to school with. He was a good friend who finally moved away years ago. Im almost 50 like your dad and life has certainly slowed down since my 20s and early 30s. Those were definately the days.

OMG that is BEAUTIFUL.. almost a shame to put a lt1 into it.. not bashing the motor of choice but a ls1 would look soo much better under that sexy *** hood..

I placed an order last night for some new door panels for the car, black vinyl with black carpeting with the diagonal split between. They will look great with the new black leather seats. I need to get a picture of those this weekend and post them up too!

Still waiting on the harness to get here so we have been working on the interior and other stuff for the time being. We got a bunch of brand new GM parts installed today: hood to cowl weather strip, door lock switches, door panel plastic plates for the switches, and the dash emblem. We got the new door panels installed also which are from www.1aauto.com and they are fantastic looking. Well worth the money spent.

The second photo is real crappy I was trying to get a pic of the door lock switches but the flash went off on my phone and blurred it all out.

I've been told that the wiring harness is in the mail, so hopefully it will be here next week. The engine and trans are in the car now, just waiting on a couple small parts to get ordered, then it's off to the exhaust shop to have the y pipe and cat back installed. Can't wait to hear what she sounds like with the Hooker 2055 3" y pipe system and a true SLP two on the left.

LT1 355 and a T56. Found out the internals are forged after pulling the pan
