Re: Another convertible project: black/red Z03 Z28 heritage car
It's the angle of the photo, the outer edge of the stripes match the contour of the blisters and then go straight forward, so at an angle it looks like the opposite side stripe is crooked. I thought the same thing after looking at the photo.

This car can now be found in the marketplace under "Camaros for sale"
My wife and I are closing on a house next month so this one's gotta go. It's about 98% completed.

Got it back from the shop today with the new seats and new top. The guy at the shop thinks he can get me a good deal on new carpet so I may be installing that in the near future as well.
Installed a gently used bowtie grill as well, the old one was cracked.

Re: Now for sale: Another convertible project: black/red Z03 Z28 heritage car
in illinois you can't register a car with a salvage title unless a licesned rebuilder does it so here it isnt worth anything

I've never heard that. Even if it's a MO title? Missouri has more strict safety inspections than IL so I don't know why it would be an issue.

We finished restoring the wheels tonight. They're not perfect but they look really good and it was our first attempt at something like this.

Re: Now for sale: Another convertible project: black/red Z03 Z28 heritage car
The front wheels aren't mounted yet because I haven't been able to get the tires mounted on them yet. I got the used set of Nitto 555R's mounted on the rears so those are on the car now. Looks much better than with the old wheels.
I also got some more interior work done with putting on the driver side door panel and trim. We ended up ordering carpet for the car, which should be coming in early next week. After we get that I'll install it so I can put the seats in.

ttypecamaro is now the new owner as of today, he's taking it back to Baltimore, MD. Maybe he will post up in the convertible section since this is his first rag top.

Re: Now for sale: Another convertible project: black/red Z03 Z28 heritage car, finish
I finally got around to playing with this car. I thought it would be neat to continue the story in the same thread. Here's a small update:
I replaced all the weather stripping on the top and windshield, replaced the speakers, replaced the seat belt caps, calibrated the tachometer since it was reading a little high, added subframe connectors, and fab'd a cage.
The next thing I want to do is figure out why the tonneau switch doesn't work and fix it. I hot-wired the solenoids and they are fine, I think its something to do with the e-brake and/or gear selector switch.
Stage 2 will be drivetrain. T56 from a GTO, twin disk clutch, 12-bolt truck rear that I'm in the process of modifying to fit, and LT1 rear disk brakes.
Stage 3 will be suspension and brakes. Adjustable shocks/struts, Tubular A-arms, and C5 Z06 front brakes (A friend of mine is trying to get me into autocross).
Stage 4 could be engine? My T-top camaro got smashed by 4 trees during hurricane Irene a year ago. I wedged my twin turbo TPI 350 out of the wreckage, so that is probably what I'll stick in this car.
Is this considered blasphemous around here? (see pictures).

Im glad the car is treating you good. Nice to see you posting back in this thread. I keep thinking about this car when I read the updates on bdnblk's car thats almost an exact clone.

And for the tonneu switch not working, take a look at.the trunk release motor. there will be a small springloaded switch mounted to it like the brake light switch on the pedals. If its out of adjustment or missing then the circuit wont complete and wont fuction. this is what keeps you from popping the cover when the trunk is open.

I can't lie... I'm bummed that its getting modded. Such a rare car to mod all up, but just makes mine that much rarer. Glad it went to someone on the boards!

I would be on the same page as you if it didnt have a salvage title. I see no reason not to mod it how you want given the circumstances.

Re: Now for sale: Another convertible project: black/red Z03 Z28 heritage car, finish
I couldn't find a spring plunger in the trunk. Maybe its missing? but I couldn't find a connector for one either. I'll end up rewiring it the way I want it to work.
It might be a bad time to mention this now, but the incompetence of the MVA actually worked in my favor for the first (and probably last) time. Apparently, not all the information transfered from MO to MD and I got a clean (no salvage) title in the mail 6 weeks after I registered the car. That sounds great, but remember it doesn't fix the vehicle history report. A free report online reported that the car was salvaged in 1993 for reasons of theft/parted out. I actually like that this car as a long history given the condition that it is in.

Wow that is cool. I never even ran the history on it because I assumes it was from the accident. I had no idea it was a theft recovery. Pretty cool (i think) that it was recovered and is now gettig the attention it deserves.

paint stripper, light sanding to get the corrosion and such off, i think he polished the outsides first then taked it off primed, painted, and cleared.

Yeo thats how I did it but I didnt really have to polish anything. when you use paint stripper and get off the old clear coat, the bare surface has a nice shine to it already. Plus I wanted to keep the machine face on them.

Aircraft wheel stripper and a paint brush. I also used an air compressor to lift off large chunks of clear when the stripper was semi-dry.

Fyi: the clear coat was pretty much all flaked off the wheels by the time I got it home, I didn't care and it still looks ok is why I never said anything.

Ahah...well I would then say that you probably arent supposed to use automotive clear coat on wheels. Probably the heat got to it. I wish I had known that before buying the clear. I would have used something else instead.

Hawks reproduction emblems are basically thick stickers with a soft rubber feeling surface if that makes sense. Factory emblems are hard plastic.

Its probably a cost of materials issue. And the brand of stripper is AirCraft.
