on a rerun on the 'velocity' channel they did a black convertible rs with z28 grill and black interior as a secondary project.they added ghost flames and 18"?black wheels.it appears all they did was paint the car and add custom seat covers.they also blacked out the taillights.unfortunely they wasted most of the show having faked conflicts between the employees and didn't show the work on the car but a little.i had to slo mo the reveal to get a good look at the interior.it replays sunday 11/06 at 3 am.

 

Saw that episode and agree with all of your statements. I was really expecting more. If you have netflix they had street customs on the instant streaming.
