seam welding rockers

Has anyone seam welded the goofy reinforcements added by ASC on the rocker panels? Mine are just held on with a dozen or so randomly spaced rivets.

Re: seam welding rockers

Concur with the need to be welded or something... a couple of rivets are loose on mine. I get creaks and pops sometimes when going up and down my driveway apron and it rattles a little on some bumps. Been working on a permanent fix for that, have a temporary. Would love to see one in a bone yard so the ASC technique could be looked at better. And on my '89 the ground effects are screwed into that same channel and all out of alignment. Sheez!

Re: seam welding rockers

My first convert had the subframe connectors welded to the riveted reinforcement....silly....welded nice and solid to a part barely held on the car.

Had my car up on the lift looking at it, and a number of these rivets are loose...not to mention they were very shoddily done in the first place. And the folded over closing panel on the ends also needs to welded solid. I am going to do this on my car....let you know how it turns out. Then I'm going to weld on some subframe connectors as well.....but one thing at a time to see what helps the most.

Re: seam welding rockers

Sounds identical to my setup. ASC supports riveted, and someone welded sub-frame connectors in there to stiffen it up more. And my sub-frame connectors are welded mostly like crap too, like a rookie did the job. Pathetic. Later this fall I might be near a bone yard that has a 3rd gen convertible total loss. If that happens I'm going to investigate as much as the yard will let me. This is completely unsat. Yep.
