Convertible Subwoofer Advise Needed

The stock sound system is so terrible. Im thinking of adding in a sub to the trunk but I dont want to kill the trunk space. So I am going to try to mount this box ( http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777BB10...ss-Bunker.html ) on the drivers side opposite the spare tire. The space is only 12 x 12 x 11. SO this box will just make it which means I can only put a 10" back there.

Now is it even worth it? When the top is down seems like there would be alot of crap between you and the sub. Will you even hear it that good?

Is it just gona rattle the **** out of the trunk?

Any advise from anyone thats put subs in a Vert would be appreciated...

Re: Convertible Subwoofer Advise Needed

I put a 10" in my trunk along with an amp to drive it and the rear speakers. I fab'd a box and mounting platform from MDF and sat them side-by-side in the bottom of the trunk well. The top of the sub box is level with the rest of the trunk and I built a cover to go over the amp at the same height. Result is good sound and a trunk with a flat bottom (although not as deep as original). It fits a set of golf clubs, groceries, or a moderate suitcase with ease.

As for the sound, you will hear more from your rear speakers than the sub so I would recommend replacing them with a high quality set that can handle the power you plan to have available from your amp. The sub will be a good add.

Not sure if I posted this here or not. I was in the same boat, sub you can hear from the trunk=no trunk.

So I made a fiberglass box in the shape of the back seat. 13.5" sub in the cabin, with a slightly more uncomfortable back seat (never used anyway), plus full trunk and a stock look.

Infinity makes one that is self contained and has everything in a ready made box that you just stick your wires to. It comes 10 or 12 and looks like it will fit in the spare tire area perfectly. I was thinking of stubbling out some wires and putting one in the back seat so I could remove it without any hassles when I needed extra room.

Well I'm using a 10" bazooka tube with Fosgate. I still manage to put my tool case, a Snap-On Solus case gym bag .... all without any problems BUT when my trunk is full my bass response drops

Re: Convertible Subwoofer Advise Needed

Anyone try replacing the rear speakers with 6.5" subwoofers? I rarely carry passengers so I'm not concerned with how it sounds in the back and I'm not sure if a sub in the trunk would be very effecient with the top down. Something like this fit back there?

Re: Convertible Subwoofer Advise Needed

Even with the top down, seat up, and on the hightways? I thought about the trunk but on the passenger side. I already removed the spare tire donut and am counting on AAA if needed. I do have a free air sub and an amp laying around I could try out. Might as well give it a shot.

Here is where I put mine , gets the trunk back (the little that there is) and they are removable so the rear seat pads can go back in
