Which to buy? 88 Iroc Vert or 90 RS Vert
I have an 87 hardtop now, but I'm really wanting a third gen convertible. I found two cars within driving distance that I'd like to look at. Before I go, I'd like to see which one you guys think would be the best. If it helps any, the plan for the car is to be used an ls1/t56 swap car. I 'd like to drive the car as-is until I'm able to do the swap in the spring when I get a house.
1988 IROC-Z Converible
Ext. Color: Black
Int. Color: Gray
Engine: 305 TPI
Trans: Auto
Mileage: 134k
Notes: Two owners, repainted at dealership 7 years ago, new carpet, top in good shape, rip in driver's seat bolster, dash pad has a small crack, custom speakers in panels by rear seats.
1990 RS Convertible
Ext. Color: Red
Int Color: Gray
Engine: 305 TBI
Trans: Auto
Mileage: 108k
Notes: New paint job (nice), Iroc hood, new top, iroc wheels, driver's seat has rips (must be replaced), needs carpet, new fuel pump, new tires, dash pad excellent, and new brakes.
The 88 Iroc is $500 cheaper than the 90 RS so the price difference is negligable.

Re: Which to buy? 88 Iroc Vert or 90 RS Vert
Thanks for the replies. I'm looking forward to checking these cars out this weekend. I'm hoping one of them will be what I'm looking for since I'm driving 6+ hours to look at them. The car market in the Nashville area is ridiculously overpriced, so we have to drive to get a car at a decent price. I'm glad to see that there's still some third gen verts out there. I've honestly never seen one in person. By far the best looking body style in my opinion.

dont know if it will make a difference to you. They only made 729 1990 rs convertibles. and quite a few of them are gone.
your going to swap power plants, so there wont be a power issue with the whopping 170hp. And that 90 has a few more perks ,i.e new top, vs. good top etc.

Agreed. I've always been a fan of the black irocs with the blue accent stripes, but that brand new paint job on the other car does catch my attention. Hopefully these cars will look just as good in person as they do in the photos.

more rare doesn't always mean more valuable.
If you decide to leave stock, then get the IROC.
If you want to swap engines, then get the RS.

Although the 1990 may be more "Rare" I would not bother. The L03 is a reliable engine, probably never give you any headaches. But the TPI is more desirable... I personally will not look at an L03 or LG4 car unless it is for parts. All things being equal, I would get the TPI... However if you are considering a swap, say to an LS motor, then get the RS

Re: Which to buy? 88 Iroc Vert or 90 RS Vert
Well I'm the proud owner of a black 1988 Iroc-Z Convertible. The car was exactly what I was looking for. Runs, drives, and looks great. There's very little that needs to be done to it, but just enough projects to keep me busy since I'm a perfectionist
.
I love the look of the convertibles, but man is it hard to find convertible-specific parts. The previous owner decided the trunk safety switch for the tonneau release wasn't important and totally removed it. Trying to track those parts down right now. I've got a couple leads, so hopefully they'll pan out.
I need to post some good pics. I'll try to do that tonight.
