Why??

Ok.....is it just me, or is this a common problem with these cars? Is it common for the thermostat to keep going out? What makes that happen more often than I'd expect? I just recently replaced it with a STANT model(probably 1 yr ago), and then that one went a couple months ago...I opted to go wtih AC DELCO this time, and now THAT one seems to be acting up....one side note....I wired my fan to a toggle switch that i have installed on the dash...so i control when it goes off and on....but I dont suspect that would have anything to do wtih this. Please advise.

I replace mine about every 6 months. It's now just part of routine maintenance. Flushed or not flushed, summer or winter 160,170,180,195, tried 'em all. They just don't last....No idea why, and at this point I just don't care. Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

So i take it this is a fairly common problem....oh well...hopefully, in the near future, that 305 will come out of there for something much more significant....

I would try maybe a Fail-Safe thermostat from Motorad. They work really well.

My car does what ever other TA or Z does....it holds the temp while moving, but gets close and past 220 while in traffic....although thats normal, i still have the fan wired to a toggle switch, and i turn on my fan when the temp approaches 200 degrees. I wait till it cools down to around 180, and then i turn it off. The only thing i've been noticing lately, is that even with the fan on, it seems to sometimes warm up a bit while going up a hill or something, instead of cooling down.....with the fan on, that thing should cool down more and more, no matter what i am doing.

Stock AC Delco stats definitely last longer than a year. Stant is the OE supplier to GM so either one is basically OE. Did you stick one of them in boiling water to check it. Never seen this problem, sounds like something else is going on. I have 3 GM cars, never had a stat fail. I usually replace them at flush time. All my cars run Dexcool, you should expect 5 years from any quality stat.

Its starting to make me think somethin else is goin on....i dunno....so far, it seems though that the thermo is holding up....but eventually, that motor is going to be ripped out of there completely anyway, so the hell with it. thanks.
