Help me figure out what hose I'm missing.

Help me figure out what hose I'm missing.

Well I did an engine swap but of course I forgot to label the hoses going in/out of the radiator. Well I found where everything connects except for one little problem.

On the Passenger side, right under the radiator fill cap, and right above the tranny line inlet, is a place to slip on a medium sized hose. Now I have no idea what goes there, so I just plugged it up for now but I have a bad feeling this may casue my car to oeverheat. So can soembody please go and look and tell me what hose goes on there.

BTW I took out the AC while doing the swap, it wasn't a line from the ac by any chance was it?

Your not talking about the overflow hose are you???

There are only 5 connections on the radiotor.

Overflow
In flow
Out flow
Tranny in
Tranny out

If your car is equipped with a factory oil cooler, the medium hose is for that. The small hose next to it is your overflow. There should be 2 metal lines that run from above your oil filter to the passenger side of the car. Connect the radiator to the front one. The second one should be joined to another metal tube that runs back to the heater core. hope this helps

Please don't make blanket statements like that. It looks bad when someone has to correct you.

I am correcting you, the connector the poster is refering to is the heater core return line. On older SBC's that hose went to the top of the water pump. On later Camaros with full serpentine belt (1989+) the heater return goes to the radiator.

As long as you have it going to the top of the water pump or the radiator you will be fine, just plug the one you don't use. My water pump top hole is plugged because I am using the radiator port.

Oh, and if you go and buy a new radiator from the parts store it will have this port because they try to make the radiators universal now.

Thanks everybody,

It truns out it's what John said. I have the hose plugged into the top of the water pump so I plugged the radiator connection up and everything seems fine.

Well John Millican I wasn't trying to make a blank statement just that i'm so use to the v6 set-up on my 1992 RS Camaro that I forgot that I'm not on the v6 board and should have read that it was a an older V8.

On the newer fuel injected engine v6 water pump there is one and only one hose and that the return line from the radiator. All heater hoses go into the block through a fancy GM fitting below the thermo-stat housing on the v6.

In the future I will not venture into unknown terrority so I don't make "blank statements." LOL
