Info for anyone that replaced their 305 with a 350
Last summer i swapped my 305 HO our of my 84 trans am and put it a GM crate 350. Ever since then the car has been running hot, or so i thought.
Well to solve the heat problem I installed a 180 stat, a Griffin 31x19 alum radiator and 2 14" electric fans (on all the time for now, switch soon).
After all this I still get temp readings around 240-250 and sometimes higher. Well the anit freeze doesnt boil... so obvisouly something is wrong.
The temp sensor (the one in the block) is the wrong sensor. If you put a 350 in, it uses a diff sensor than the 305 so the gauge gives horrible readings.
The 305 sensor does not fit into the 350 (the hole is too big) so you need an adapter
The part numbers (from www.partsamerica.com) are
350 sensor: TSU5
305 sensor: TSU64
Brass 3/8F 1/2M Bushing: 321109
Now that I am getting at least close to a real temp reading I haven't broken 200 degress even in stop and go.
