Need help...which A/C hose/line is it?
Hi guys and gals...
Here's what I have to begin with.. 89 Firebird 305 TBI (A/C Comp is on the passenger side).
Ok, I go to convert the system over to R-134a and come to found out the one of the vavles on the high-pressure side (I think) was leaking. So I need to replace this line/hose but I can't find one anywhere.. Heck, I'm not even sure I know what it's called, so I will try to describe it..
It's metal line/rubber hose combo that has two screw fittings on it. I don't know all the correct terms of all the A/C parts so please bear with me as I try to explain it.
There's a line that comes out of the firewall and then bends up. (I don't need this, I know it's part of the A/C thing in the dash area). There is a connection to another line continuing up where there is one screw fitting and then it bends back down to run along the frame towards the front of the car where there's another screw fitting. It then changes to a rubber hose and then into that front A/C radiator type thing.
This is the hose/combo I need. Does anyone know what the heck this line is called and/or where in the heck I can get one? I've tried Napa, AutoZone in person and Ac-Delco Online and none of these places even list anything close to it. The only one they all list is the one that bolts to the compressor.
Sorry for the long post for such an easy question, I just didn't know how else to explain it.
Thanks in advanced!!!
Later,
Mike

From the way you have described the line, it sounds like the A/C liquid line.
If you can't get a liquid line from the dealer, I would suggest that you find a "high side adapter" at a parts store.
GM used a 3/8" high side fitting, and most everybody else used a 7/16". The adapter just screws on, and converts the port to a 7/16" fitting, then you can screw the 134a high side adapter onto the high side adapter and you are done.
I had to do that on my 82' due to the fact that GM no longer makes the liquid line for my car, and the junk yards usually just use bolt cutters to dis-connect the line from the condenser.
Another option is to go to your local radiator shop and ask them if they can repair/make a new line for you.
Good luck.
