dual fans question

I am going to swap out the single fan in my 84 TA and put in the dual fans that came with the newer models. My question is, is there any problem(s) if i just wire both fans to the original single wire so that they both come on at the same time? Can i just splice the original single wire to power both fans?

You will need two fan relays. One relay will NOT handle the current both fans draw. You can turn on two relays with the temp switch, that should not be a problem, but you do need the extra relay and related wiring.

I am also getting ready to upgrade my car to the dual fans. Will I need two relays if I want to hook one fan up to the existing relay for my single fan and then run the second fan off of a switch in the inside of the car?

It is the best way to do it. Problem is that most garden variety toggle switches cannot handle the current the fan motor draws. The fan motor can draw in excess of 20 amps on initial start up and normally anywhere from 6-10 amps continuous when running. Even if you get a switch heavy enough you will still need pretty hefty wire to and from the switch. By using the relay you can keep the wiring to a minimum for the high current to the fan motor and run only a single thin wire to the switch in the car. The other terminal of the switch will just go to ground.

can i just hook up one fan to the original wire and then put the second fan on a manual switch which i can control? I'm just looking for the easiest route for now and may upgrade to the system in the tutorials section later. If i can run one fan manually, how is it basically wired?
