cooling system tune up of sorts
well all this looking at cooling probs i have decided that i want to change/upgrade my current cooling system on my 84 TA. Here is a list of things that i want to do and if i leave anything out please let me know:
-switch single rad fan to dual
-change water pump to higher capacity pump (any suggestions on brands edelbrock?)
-change thermostat (what is the best to use 160?)
-get a new rad-think its still the original rad (go to three core aluminum-any specific brands or is the Canadian Tire rad going to work just fine)
-change most hoses to prevent future headaches
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

You did a pretty good job thinking it through. If it is the original block you might consider new freeze plugs. Also a good chemical flush will remove a lot of crap from inside the block. Has it had a new heater core yet? If not it's a worthwhile investment if you are going to have the system drained anyway. A 160 stat is too cold, stock 195 is best for driveability however most of the guy's here like the 180. It's a good compromise. Stewart water pump's seem pretty decent, up to you. Dittos on the rad. I like the stock GM Harrison unit, it's efficient and well made. And you can buy it on the net at the same price as an aftermarket unit. That really depends on what you wish to spend, the real high eff jobs can get pricey. I run a zz-4 block with all else the stock setup and the GM unit work just fine. Thats pretty much the way I did mine, just went for broke and did everything at once. You will get peace of mind for many more years. LOL
