bad belts and cooling

can this cause overheating. this is my problem:

I get to the highway and I will get the car to 230, then I coast and the temp goes up a few degrees and starts to go down. then when I put it in gear and step on the gas the temp goes down again to about 190...then bact to 220 in a few min of 70 MPH driving. I know I have bad belts. So can slipping cause the water pump to not flow as well?

Sounds like your termostat is shot, replace it. Well if your belts are old just get new ones.

It's a possibility though I wouldnt rule that out as a solution. Replace the belts anyway and see what happens.

i agree that it might be the thermostat .. also double check ur air dam.. it might even be the water pump.. but start simple first
