how to check temp. gauge

I have a 85 TA. The temp gauge shows it hot but the car doesnt seem to be hot. I wired the fan so when the key is on it turns on the fan. Put on a new rad. took out the thermastat. Tha air dam looks decent. Had to buy that peice the air dam screws to. Old one busted. The gauge will max out. How do check the gauge to see if it is right?

you can either hook up another temp guage to see if yours if close to what that ones says, or maybe you need a new guage sender and/or a temp sender

Just swap the sender... it's like $5, no sense to go to all the trouble of fooling around with all the labor twice to troubleshoot it and then change it, when you can just change it and only do it once
