Temp gauge stopped working....

My temp gauge stopped working a couple of days ago. I put in a 145mph speedo and so thought that it may be the cluster that went bad so i pulled it and cleaned the contacts...no luck. Then put the original cluster back in for a test which worked perfect when I yanked it. The temp gauge didnt work on that either.

So I just need to know where the sensor or relay is and easiest way or how to replace them. Or if there is something else that is easier that i'm missing. thanks in advance

On my 92 , the temp sensor for the gauge is on the Driver's side cylinder head, between the #1 and #3 spark plugs.Yours is older, so I'm not sure if the location is the same, but usually they're in one of the the cylinder heads. Temp sensor for the computer is in the intake manifold.

That is weird. I put in a 145 mph speedo too, and the temperature guage doesn't work. Only trouble is I don't know if it worked before because I tore the car apart for a restoration as soon as I got it home. But it might be the problem because it looks all interconnected back there.

The sensor in our 83 is in the thermostat housing, at least thats where I put it. I did read on the board elsewhere that the guage bearings can fail, so i need to check that.

If you pull the guage from the panel. with the panel still in position, you can - on the 83 - use a resitance meter to check if you are getting a signal from the sensor.
