temperature gage

I put in my hyperstat cooling switch and it works but the fans turn on at the line in between the 100 and the 220 lines, how cold is this. I bought the switch that turns the fans on at 200 but i don think this if 200 degrees. if anyone knows for shure tell me cause i think that i might have recieved the wrong switch.

The line you refer to is about the normal spot a typical TG runs at in highway driving with a 195 degree stat. Give or take a needle width that's where it generally runs, in fact all my GM vehicles stay around that first line. I have found that the guages are not exactly linear in the way they read. You can assume the switch is OK, it's probably at or around 195-200 at that point. I don't recommend changing fan operational temp, because the fans will constantly cycle if you run a 195 stat and they are the largest current draw in the vehicle. Two things happen, first you will cut the life of the alt by more than half and you will also severly shorten the life of the fan motors. If you had a stock dual fan setup did you notice that both fans now come on- it's a default from the ECM. By lowering the fan switch the ECM sees the secondary fan on before the primary and defaults turning on the primary as well. That's where the problem lies, it's too much for the electrical system to handle over the long haul. That's why the engineers had a 20 or so degree spread before the primary would turn on. Regardless of what you read here or anywhere else it's counterproductive to mess with the factory design.

that sounds more like in the range of 160 - 180...

thats seems pretty cool..

mine runs at 220, at least thats what the guage says..

Does your car have the dual fan setup. I have that switch also and run with a 160 degree stat. The one fan comes on at about 185 and the other only comes on when I turn on the A/C or if the car gets real hot. but mine never gets above 220 in traffic so the other fan did not come on yet. When I installed their thermomaster chip both fans came on at about 185. I noticed this chip is worthless, I pulled it out and the car ran the same, seems only thing it did was turn the other fan on earlier, but I have no dyno numbers to back this up.

1/4 mile with chip: 14.2@98MPH
1/4 mile without chip: 14.2@98MPH
