coolent leak

I just purchased an 89 formula WS6 with the 350 in it, and it has a fairly large coolant leak. The leak apears to be coming from a set(two) lines that run into something right above the oil filter, I can also hear what sounds like a pressure leak coming from the same area after I turn the car off.

If any of you guys have any idea what this is or any ideas of where else it could be coming from, please let me know.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

Tony B

sounds like the engine oilo cooler, coolant run through an adapter that the oil filter screws to, you should be able to bypass this with hose, but I would replace the needed lines to retain the cooler

It appears that the previouse owner has put radiater type hoses on the lines going into the piese above the oil filter, or is that how it should be?? I am very new to the 3rd gen f-bodys. I am familiear with the 4 gens, and had an Impala ss before this car, but dont know much about these cars, so forgive me if I sound somewhat ignorant with some of my questions.

I am going to try to get under it in the morning and take a better look at the leak, and see what needs to be done to fix it properly. Hopefully it wont be too involved.

Oil line leaks generally don't make noise. Sounds like actual coolant pressure is bleeding off from a leak in that part of the system. I would poke around a little more. Oil coolers are fine however you can eliminate it by switching to synthetic oil if you want. Chevy dropped the cooler in the 92vettes and up by making Mobil1 the factory fill. My feeling is the less lines and fittings the better.
