overheating

I have an 84 Z28 Camaro, with a 5.0L 305 V8 H.O. engine, I've been driving for a while, but just recently its been overheating or acting like it was. I've read many forums ,but I'm having a difficult time determining my problem. I already replaced the thermostat and the radiator cap. The symptoms I experience are: temp. gage shows that the engine is overheating and the coolant boiols and sprays out of the cap on the coolant tank, but when i replaced my radiator cap it stopped boiling over, but it was still overheating. I've been told that it could have to with any of these components: thermostat, radiator cap, clog in cooling system, air dam, fan/fan switch, air leak; but I need help determining which one(s) it is. Any thoughts?

Thanks

I'd start with the easiest thing to check first,

when the engine is warm/overheating check and see it the fan is comming on.

if it only overheats on the highway then look under the car and make sure the air dam is there.

with engine cold take radiator cap off, start car, let warm up, look and see if the coolant is circulating.

ok..this just happened to my car...I replaced the thermostat, got new gaskets and a whole new coolant temp sensor. when it overheats no heat comes from the vents right? thats what happened to me...start with the thermostat first though

it could be that your gauge is just not reading correctly, i know alot of people have said that there factory temp gauges sucked, i know for a fact on mine it was reading 20 degrees hotter than it actually was, just take your car to a shop, have them check the temp with some laser thing they use, and see if your gauge is off cuz it very well could be
