Non-third gen. Electric Fans??

Okay guys, I need your expertise here.
I've got a '71 Nova that won't keep cool at idle. Here's what it's got:

Small block 383 with a 142 blower
Griffin 2-row 1.25 tube aluminum radiator
High flow aluminum water pump-new
160* thermostat
Fan shroud

I tried a flex fan at first, to no avail. So I decided to go with a rigid, stock-type 6 bladed fan. That also didn't work. My temp would just steadily keep rising, 200*+. I've replaced the thermostat, and that didn't help.
The temp. stays at a steady 140* when driving down the highway. The problem is low speed/idle. I'm thinking electric fans are my best bet to get the air flow I need.

What do you guys think?
Thanks.

Ben

Although I personally prefer electric fans, did you try running a HD GM clutch fan? When you go to buy the clutch, order one for a Cop Car / Taxi app, much more HD than the stocker. Guy I know runs this setup, with a non alum 3 core radiator and a 180 thermostat and his 408 keeps really cool. Good thing his exhaust is loud, because that clutch fan is noisy!

I hadn't tried a clutch fan because I figured the fan will still spin the same speed anyway, just disengage at the appropriate time/temp. I guess it could be cheaper than going electric. It's a possibility. Thanks.
