160 vs 180

i put a 160 thermostat in my 91 RS 305 man, and noticed a big performance boost from the stock, but is it better then the 180, cause i see all the cars on the postings with 180 stats, does running to cool cause a decrease in performance?

it's a lively topic, but a 160 stat is too cold for an electronically manged engine. the performance boost you think you have is in your head, more perception than fact. the engine will run best at 195, 180 is the lowest you should go if running an ECM.

180* stat here with a C-4 Corvette 200* fan switch........keeps my engine cool even in city driving....
