engine overheats occasionally
I have an 86 z28 with a rebuilt 305 w/ carb...it sat through the winter, i just put a new battery in it and ive been starting it every few days to air it out...today i started it and i let it run till it was hot and when i shut the engine off all the coolant started to bubble out into the overflow reservoir and there was steam everywhere...now ive always had problems with overheating, mainly on very hot days.. is there anything i might try to help my car run cooler? usually its at its worst when im idling at a stop light or something like that on a very hot day, then i just turn on the vents full blast and sweat my ***** off while i watch the temp gauge go down! it sucks but it works...this spring i want to fix this overheating problem once and for all so any suggestions will be great...i would like to switch the radiator cap and get a new thermostat, i dont know what thermostat to get though?? also i was wondering if flushing the radiator would possibly help...maybe a larger water pump?? what do you guys think?
