Swapping manual fan for electric in an '83
My 383 small block runs cool on the road, but in traffic the AutoMeter starts creepin up fast. I have a massive 4-row radiator, 180 stat, and a Z28 airdam. The problem I believe is with the manual clutch fan. I want to use an electric for both the cooling benefits and the h.p. gains.
What requirements do I need to consider when purchasing an electric fan (or fans)? My car has around 425 hp and I have a trans cooler that I am going to install as well this spring. The car no longer has A/C (or a computer). It'll only be driven in the summer.
I thought about using a stock electric fan from a Dodge Viper. They are available from Mopar for $149. What stock or aftermarket fans are you guys using for bigger cube engines? Any suggestions/comments are welcome.

Does anyone actually use the cooling board??? Seven whole views and no replys... pretty lame.
C'mon help me out. I'm looking for a CFM recommendation or a good fan (or fans) to use.

Wow, 9 days and still no replys. Even the guy who responds to every electric fan question with: "you should buy dual spal fans like mine" didn't even respond. I'm gettin no love on the cooling board.
If you see me pulled over on the shoulder puking antifreeze this summer, you'll know I guessed wrong.

Hey,,
Id think the viper setup would work ok, vipers make about 450 hp in stock trim and thats with 2 extra cylenders to cool, Im not sure about the dimentions tho, also I dont know howd youd hook a thermostat into it, if they sell thermometer harnesses tho Id say go for it.

I have a 83 Z-28 that I put a 388 stroker in and changed the thermostat to 160, removed the stock fan and put an electric fan out of another Camaro in front of the radiator. The engine puts out around 400 HP and never gets over 210 degrees even when I'm running it at the local strip. good luck
