What size electric fan????

This weekend im ordering a better electric fan.I was wondering whats the stock size our cars have and what size fits?I was looking at a fan but it comes in 14 inch and 16 inch diameter,3.75 is the depth.Should i get the 14 or 16?Its a 2,950 CFM and draws 9.5 amps. How would this fan be?its from Perma Cool.My car is an 86 Trans Am TPI with a 305...Thanks,Al in NJ

I installed the 16" Perma Cool fan for my "91" RS Camaro but, the summers here in California get kind of hot so I replaced the 16" fan and bought two 12" Perma Cool fans to help my A/C work better. The 16" fan worked well but, I think the two 12" fans work better. Right now the weathers been averaging around 65* and the temperature gauge reads just below the 220* mark in traffic before the fans turn on.

The part number for the 12" Perma Cool fan is PRM-19008 from www.SummitRacing.com $82.95 each. I had to cut part of the fan shroud for clearance. Here's a couple pictures:

The fans come with plastic straps foam pads and locking caps that you push through the fan mounts and radiator fins to secure it.

Do either one of those setups (GKK or 93 zzz28) interfere with the air conditioner lines that run direcly behind my factory single fan?

The A/C lines on my "91" RS Camaro are routed near the passenger side inner fender well and do not interfere with anything.

On mine the AC lines are not in the way of the fans. Mine had the dual fans from the factory.

92 zzz28, what kind of fans are those? Also, that is the Griffin rad.,correct? If so, what mounting brackets did you use to mount the fans? Thanks

Yes, griffin radiator (awesome)
Spal dual 11" fans (awesome)
I used Be Cool mounting brackets that hang over the core of the radiator. They don't fit on the Griffin perfectly. I used some rubber to shim them snuggly to the radiator. Be Cool also requires the use of additional support bars that run the width of the core to act as a brace for the fans. I made my own out of 1/8 aluminum. Be Cool wants about $50 for their braces I made for less than $10.

thanx 92. I just ordered one from carshopinc too. Hope it's in stock! I also have some brackets from be-cool on the way. I saw your post when you mounted the fan to your Griffin radiator and made your own brackets. I'll be doing the same. Thanx for the help and I hope this works well with my stock radiator and almost bone stock L98 with a/c.

Nice job on the dual aftermarket fans guys. Curious though do you have any before and after temp data?? I just updated my cooling system in my 88GTA with the pricey BECOOL and a FLOWKOOLER waterpump and was looking at puting in some different fans. New Airdam from GM (3 piece) is going on this weekend. I'm still running warmer than I'd like to see on the hot summer down here in South Carolina, you guys have me some good ideas!

My temps vary whether the AC is on and by the outside temp. Usually I see about 210 MAX in traffic with AC on full in the warm S. FL. summer. Cruising drops it about 10* or so. With the AC off and cooler (not much mind you, this is S. FL.) outside temps it won't go above 190* in traffic. Cruising is about 180*...

All of these temps are logged by an Auto Meter Pro Comp mech. temp guage.

My stock system ran at about 230 all the time...

Sorry to bring this one up from the dead but I just bought the Griffin and 2 Perma Cool fans mentioned above and they absolutely rock! I need to fabricate a top bracket to make it look a bit neater but everythings great for now.
