Stock Operating Temp.
I just got a 91 RS with the TBI 305 and it over heated the first two times I drove it. If I run with the AC on the fan runs, but it doesn't run without AC. I'm still worried because the car stays at about 220* when I drive it, and my dad tells me that's still too hot. I know I'm going to have to replace the fan relay, but is there anything else I should be worrying about?

My fan clicks on at 240, (gets that hot only while I am at a 5 stop light during mid day sun), but I usualy run 200-220 once the car is fully warmed up. But then again, I'm in Phoenix Arizona...
As far as I know, this is normal... if not, could someone let us know?
350 TPI BTW.

First, make sure the cooling system is in good shape. In a 91 with TBI the fan is turned on by a fan switch on the pass side. It usually comes on around 230 degrees or so. Check the airdam on the bottom under the nose. It is the primary source of airflow for the radiator when moving. If the AC activates the fan then the relay is OK but I always replace it anyway when suspecting intermittent cooling problems. They are notorious for working intermittently. Also, many times the guage reads high on these cars. I also recommend replacing the guage sender with an OE part from the dealer. I have seen aftermarket ones read 10-20 degrees higher. It is located on the driver side between cyl 1&3. Check coolant ratio, replace rad cap as part of service.
