Dual Fans Dont shut off
When i bought my 88 iroc i notice it had dual fans, and what i thought was a lower stat for the fans, well it turns out the guy who owned it before me had the fans wired together and into a fuse so they stayed on all the time no matter what. what i want to know is this harmful to the fans or anything eldr. i was told that is drains power and can wear out my alternator faster, but is it more beneficial in the end? they are electric fans and i know they are easy to find but i dont want to have to worry about them 3 months down the road.
With the fans on full time they will wear out quickly. And, as you said there will be extra demand placed on the alternator possibly resuling in its life being shortened. Finally, when the fans are operating as intended by the factory, they are supposed to shut down once your car is running over 35 MPH. They are simply not needed at speed.
