How bad is no coolant?

my car sat in a storage garage from december to april, and i come to the car in april to check everything over to get it on the road....well i tried starting it and it would not go, turn but not start.

The owner of the storage place said that coolant leaked all over the place in January when he had to move the car out to put another one in...which means that the car had no coolant from january to april.

How bad of a problem am i looking at here? The place is insulated well, so the cold probably didnt affect it, i dont think....
Would an absence of coolant cause the car not to start?

and by the way, i DO intend on suing the SOB if any damage was caused due to his neglagence for not notifying me....

thanks for any imput!

Assuming he did not let it overheat while moving it, there should be no real problem. Find out where and why the coolant came out. If the ratio was wrong and it did freeze there may some repairs to do but it should not be catastrophic. Sitting with no coolant amy only introduce some corrosion into the system. Do a good flush after you find the problem. And no, the coolant will not affect whether it runs or not. Try some starting fluid, see if it kicks. It may just be stale gas.

well, i got it started, the gas was in the tank for four months and it probably was stale, like you said, and my battery was replaced and it eventually fired up...

it was the waterpump that blew, i repaired that, along with my fuel pump...i was just worried that no coolant caused something in the engine to break down or something, and it didnt overheat, so i guess i over reacted....oh well, i still moved my car out of there and am now storing it somewhere else....thanks
