Fan kicks in really late.

I got a 91 RS V6 camaro and I just replaced the fan motor and fan relay and it kicks in about 3/4 of tempeture gauge. I dont think its normal and always thought its supposed to kick in at about 260 (or halfway if your temp gauge is different). It was doing this on the old fan motor as well. It kicks in right away when I turn on the AC like it should. How do I set it to kick in quicker? Thanks for the help.

Change the fan switch. I'm not sure whre it is on a V6 but, on a 305 it's on the passenger side head between the #6 and #8 spark plugs.

my 92 3.1 camaro has the same "problem"....from what I hear these engines were meant to run hot, and the fan kicks on at about 240* stock...to change this you either gotta get a new thermistor (to trick the ECM) or a new chip for the ECM, because there isnt a fan switch on the 3.1 v6's

also if you have A/C (unlike me) you can just turn that on, which will should turn the fan on automatically and cool it down...
