overheating in traffic, only w/ AC on

single fan setup, that the previous owner rigged with some damn adjustable fan switch. The switch in the passenger side head is physically there, but for the life of me I can't find the wire that is supposed to go on it. I've done this several times, but this is making me angry, the wire appears to have just up and vanished. So I have this adjustable turd, that keeps the fan running all the time as near as I can tell. The thermostat works, the hoses are good, radiator clear, and mixture good. Driving around with out the AC on, I idle under 200*F. Click that sucker on and watch the gauge climb to just before the red (it'll hit red if I don't turn the AC off and get some flow going). This only happens in traffic, I can cruise w/ the AC on and the temp is steady, as soon as that airflow is gone, temps head for the stratospheric level. I'm somewhat wanting to rectify this problem, and somewhat totally non-caring, I leave for Ft. Benning in less than 3 months, and I can live without the damn AC for longer than that. It's just the one thing I haven't been able to figure out (nor has anyone else, so this is a rhetorical ? of sorts I suppose) since I bought the car when I graduated High School in '01...

Any suggestions are welcome.

Anthony
