Hi,

I purchased a Hypertech 180 Degree Cool Fan Switch (Product Number 4028) for my 1989 Firebird L03 5.0L engine about 8 months ago. I just got around to installing it recently and am having some problems. I have the Hypertech chip and themostat installed as well.

The problem is that the fan doesn't come on (at all!). I verified that the fan is working by grounding the wire going to the fan switch. I have not done the following:

Verify that the coolant level is correct (I think it is, but will double check)

Verify that the switch is good. I plan on doing this by removing it and testing it in a pan of boiling water.

My questions are:

What else should I check?

Is it common for these switches to be bad?

Would the coolant level have anything to do with it not working correctly?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

 

Nobody responded, but I thought I would update anyway. It turned out to be a bad switch. I bought a stock one at the local parts store and the fan now works. I am getting a new one sent from Hypertech.
