Cooling sitation...... should be simple
I've been reading the posts in this section and have a similar problem and am hoping that I cna fix it.
I have an '87 IROC-Z w/305TPI and approx 128k.
I have just recently had a coolant flush, fresh coolant installed, 180* thermo, new radiator cap......
I'm overheating almost to the 240* mark on the highway. I have hardwired one of my two fans to run constantly but its still getting that high.
I do _NOT_ have an airdam at present.
I'm going to be ordering P/N 10017673 tomorrow. Is this the right P/N for the car and also, do you think this could be the culprit?
Thanks

14083929 is the correct number for an 89 single piece deflector, you can always check with a dealer. And yes, without it it will always run hot.

Yup that's the problem....
Just ask a guy down the street from me. He bought a NICE '87 GTA from an auction. Red on tan, the nice seats, T-tops etc...5 speed too
Anyway, the car ran hot on the interstate. He replaced the cap, coolant, radiator, water pump etc...BTW he was PAYING someone to do all this. Then he finally "Decided" that it was a head gasket problem...even though he wasn't losing coolant or mixing oil / coolant....
So I ask him about the car one day, and he tells me the whole story, and says if anyone wants it, he'd sell it cheap. I had just bought my IROC or I would have jumped on it. Called a guy I knew who'd mentioned he was looking for something to play with....he comes over and whittles the guy down to $750!!!!
We drove it down the street to my house, and after awhile I looked underneath to see how clean it was and realized the air dam was gone...well actually there were some chunks where it bolted up left...but that was it.
My buddy picked up the part from the junkyard for $5!!!! He drove it for a good while, did some mods etc then sold it....but you can bet it wasn't for $750
