Question on Retrofit charging for AC

I have read a few things here and there about people who did not have the AC evacuated before charging with the kit. Some have said it works. My AC blows no cold air whatsoever. Does this mean all the ac is empty and does not need to be evacuated? If not is it a bad idea to use the kit without getting it evacuated?

It is important for several reasons. In brief,"Putting a vacuum" on the system removes moisture, old oil, etc. At the same time you can verify that the system holds vacuum, to ensure that there are no leaks.

Would your AC still work if you didn't do it? In some way, probably.

Would it work as well as it would have if you evacuated the system properly? I'd bet money that it wouldn't.

However, if your system is just low on refrigerant, and not empty, you could just charge it up. Does your AC compressor come on at all? If it does, the system is low, not empty.

If it's empty, you have a leak somewhere. Evacuation of the system also removes moisture and stuff that has probably made it's way into the system. You should probably also have it leak checked to find the source of the leak. If you just add to the system, it may work for a while. However, how well it works and how long it works before leaking out is the question nobody can answer.

So

By recharging it I just add all those cans in the kit right? If My compressor works I can just recharge it that way is what your saying? I guess I would Have to figure out how much to add if it is not totally empty. Correct? Maybe not all 3 cans ?

Thanks alot

No, you have to get the R12 out of the system before you add R134a if it's not empty. You need around 80 percent of the R12 capacity(on a sticker in the engine compartment) to fill it.

If you don't have a leak and your R12 system is just low, you can use this stuff. I have charged many low R12 systems with it with excellent results.
