cooling problems with ram air
I was thinking about adding a ram boxes to my car but I’m kinda worried that if I cut holes in my air dam to fit the boxes I end up with I cooling problem.
Having ram air would divert most of the incoming air up into the intake instead of the radiator. What do you guys think, would it cause me cooling problems ? Does anyone with ram air have experience on this ? I mean afterall GM must have had a reason to put in an air dam.
Thanks a lot
Alex
ps: these are the boxes I'm talking about

I just recently put those boxes on my car and I am running hot all the way up to 250!!. I don't think it is the boxes it self though. If that is the kit from hawks you are going to actually remove the air deflctor between the fog lights and radiator. This plastic plate has two holes in it which are connected to the fog light holes. Air goes dirrectly from your foglights to the radiator. When you hook up these ram air tubes you actually take the path of the air from the foglights to your intake (obviously you knew that). Since you have to remove this plate there is nothing to smoothly guide the air coming in from the back air dam to the radiator. You'll see what I mean once you look under the intake assembly. I think the air is too turbulent from the air dam to air intake. I am thinking of making some kind of guide like the factory one to go behind the ram air elbows to smooth air to radiator like the stock plate that i removed did. Also I could experiencing cooling problems because I am morron and haven't checked my cooling components.
Hopefeully I helped you out, pleases excuse all the babble.
