Problems with Dual Fans
alright guys heres the problem. previous owner jerry rigged my dual fans to be on all the time no matter what. I'm in the process of reverting it back to stock but encountered some problems along the way. Currently i'm just waiting for the two connectors to get here but in the meantime i decided to hook up the wires directly to each other without the use of the connectors. Everything seems to be wired up fine according to the following diagram but my fans don't seem to work.
When i first turn my car on, the primary fan turns on for 2 seconds, shuts off and never comes back on. Also when the IGNITION is on but the car is off, and i put the paper clip in to see what codes i have, the primary fan turns on and stays on until i remove the paper clip. as for the secondary fan i just got a new fan switch so i'll see if that makes any difference.
can anybody recommend any tests i could try with a multimeter or what could be causing this problem?

There are two fan relays next to your battery on the inner fender. Take them apart and check to make sure you have power supplied to the relay. I belive it's the orange wire. If there is power there, jump the hot wire to the other thick wire. (there should be two thick and two thin wires in that connector) The fan corresponding to that relay should turn on. If not, there is a wiring problem between the relays and fans. Since your primary fan comes on when you jump the ALDL connector, I would guess that the wiring is ok. I would suspect the wiring to the coolant temp sensor located under the throttle body in a TPI engine. It will have a yellow and black wire running to it. This is the sensor that commands the ECM to turn on the fans when they are needed. If that doesn't work, I would do a search on here for a better diagram. When I wired my new fan setup in my IROC, I found a diagram posted by Vader that was absolutely awesome.
