Very interested in this post, as i have a non ac box and delete pulley, as well as some non ac controls on the way. I have heard that the controls are cable actuated instead of vaccuum actuated (like the ac controls)? Is this true? Also, will i then need a new setup on the inside under the dash to match the non ac controls? If anyone has any info on a car that originally came without ac, i would love to have part numbers etc. This is in an 88 firebird by the way. I understand there are less ducts and i'm not too concerned about that i just want to be able to use the new controls instead of having the ones that say ac still.

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
The non-AC stuff is cable controlled; here's the complete set-up:
I think you only need to change the main box, not the piece that is attached to the dash itself.
Changing out just that box *should* allow air to come out the side vents when the selector is in the 'VENT' position - the non-AC cars didn't have those side vents; the Camaro had the openings molded over, while the Firebirds had snap-in covers. The main boxes will interchange between the Camaro/Firebird, and the main piece attached to the dash is the same also, but the piece directing air to the center vents is different.
If you need some part numbers, I have two of these setups on hand (possibly 3, but I forget where the third might be) to check...
