Is my guge broken?

It seems like my engine heats up quick. When going down the road at like 55 mph the temp reads I'm thinking 160*. When in traffic and not moving it heats up to 220*. But recently after changing to coolant and backflushing the system in stead of stopping at 220* it keeps going up towords 260*. It doesn't run as cool as it did before flushing the system.

What can I do to keep it running cooler? What is the normal temp. for the engine to run at? It is a TPI 305.

have you double checked your coolant to make sure its still full after running it when u filled it? usualy alot of air builds up and you need to check the level after the engine has cooled down to make sure your still full.

Norm. temp should be 195* Did you change the thermostat? it could be sticking. Also, after you engine warms up check the coolant temp in the radiator. That will tell you if your "googe" is broke!
