Hello all, this is my first post cause this the first time i have had a problem with my car, it's a 85 Z28, 350tpi, the problem is today as i drove up to the trusty Food Lion, shut down my car, went shopping, arrived back at my car to find out it would not start, after sitting there for 20 or so minutes it finally started, if anyone has had this happen to them before and fixed it or know what the problem is pleas email me

Do a search. I believe this can occur from heat soak on the starter. My guess is the starter is starting to go bad. That's what mine did acouple times before it died.

its is either starting to go bad or it is getting hot and just not working. i had an old f150 that did that. not to cool on 20* - weather conditions waiting to leave the gas station.

Sounds like the infamous heat soaked starter, check the tech articles, really nice one about how to cure that.

I would look into the remote solenoid article still, otherwise you'll probably have the problem again.

yea i was having the same problem. sometimes it would take an hour to cool enough. i bought the remote solenoid and it fixed the problem. hasn't happened since. you probably could have just gotten away with that. 30 bucks and about 1 hours to install taking my time.

I had this exact problem and it was caused form heat soak. A new starter will work for a while but will still suffer the same death as the first(if its heat soak). The problem is easily fixed with a $25 starter shield that block some of the heat from soaking into your new starter. Here is what saved my starter from heat soak

sweets10v8 is right about your starter dying the same way but i think a remote solenoid is a better route over the heat shield. it is about the same cost and you wont have a part that will trap moisture and dirt and also be a potential fire hazard. just my 2 cents.

I never experienced heat soak with my OEM starter (no clue how I avoided it) since I was always running hot and my Y pipe and TES headers come pretty close to the starter... One day my starter act'd up then died a day later... mine was just a faultly starter... I went to a mini starter and I got even more clearance.
Would a mini starter help out any since it would provide more air space between the motor and the exhaust?
