How important is the Oil Cooler?

How important is the Oil Cooler?

I was wondering how important it is to have the oil cooler on?? I am doing an engine swap and was looking at the lines and the cooler and was wondering if that thing really does anything? can you guys fill me in?

its really only usefull if your going to be running the car at upper rpms for a sustained amount of time... however, we never ran an oil cooler in the latemodel, and that was a sbc, w/ about 400 hp, ran between 5200-6900 the whole race... oil temps never gotr about 225 or so, which with synthetic is fine.

So basically, i think your going to get some people telling you to keep it, and some telling you to dump it.

I say it has to do with your car, and what you want to do with it... its not necesary for drag racing... autocross... ehhhh most only last 45 seconds... road racing, a definate solid addition for some added protection against extra heat build up.

this will be a street drivin car maybe the longest trip will be an hour straight and then the odd weekend down at the track trying to get the best 1/4mile run..

regular driving doesn't make any difference... believe it or not, your oil pan is a heat sink for your oil, as well as ur cooling system...

seems to me you would be fine with out it... one less place for a coolant leak if your using a factory setup
