couple question

ok my first question has probably been answered buy I could not find it anywhere using the search. my fan is wired to run all the time. is it possible that i am overcooling my engine? also, the guy who had the car before me wired the fan hot wire right to the pink ignition wire (hence it comes on all the time). i have a problem of the ignition wire getting way to hot. could this be because of the fan because i know it is supposed to use a relay? how many amps does the fan draw? there could be other things hooked up to this same wire so it is not definitly the fan. i know the heater blower is tied into this wire but does it use a relay or get direct power from it? any suggestions would be appreciated!! thanks

what t-stat are you using?

if stock than mostly likely u cant overcool because of such a high operating temp caused by it.

the fan being on all the time will just make the engine take alittle longer to warm up to the t-stat temp.

i would really use a relay and jsut use the gorund wire on the relay to make the fan be on when it gets power on start up.

if u dont have the proper thickness of wire the wire will get warm due to the current needed to flow.

the heater motor / a/c uses a relay when using the high speed setting but with a stock heater box setup it just uses a resistor block for the three speeds.

i wouldnt have all these things hooked up liked this, at least try and setup the factory connections for these things to help prevent any damage.

thanks, everything you said makes sense. you said the heat was because of a restriction in the current and i noticed it only gets hot at a quick disconnect he put in there. I think ill be alright with the heater becase its just stock. i picked up three big relays off of a 91 camaro so ill put one in for the fan and get rid of that quick disconnect and see what happense. thanks again, and thanks for that pic!

A stock electric fan will draw in excess of 25 amps during windup...that's putting quite a strain on the ignition system.
