Heater Valve = Annoying

How many people live in cold climates and have your heater valve hoses leak? I am thinking it could be just me and maybe I need some new hoses after two years. However, does anyone else have leaks around the connections when it gets extremely cold? I'm not talking major leaks but enough to leave a tiny puddle on the pavement. That plastic heater valve should never have been plastic in the first place, maybe plastic dissipates heat better but it sure is flimsy!

Mine starting doing that after i replaced my leaking main hose. I bought a new part, only to find out ti stopped leaking when it warmed up 15 degrees outside. I might change it and its hoses whenever I have nothing better to do.

Yeah I am thinking of just changing the three heater hoses that go into the stupid thing. I replaced the valve last summer and when I took the valve off I saw that one of the tubes the hose clamps onto was deformed. I just love plastic valves, not.

Wow this is amazing mine just broke. The plastic pieces on the side of mine broke. I was drivin then i saw a little steam. I'm like oh s*** cause i just replaced my radiator. I looked and saw it was dripping on to the valve covers. When I tried to move it i got a face full of warm coolant. So i payed $70 for a tow and $15 for the part. It was exciting. I wonder if u can get ride of it???

There are plenty of posts on here if you look up "heater valve". Some people have done away with the valve and made the coolant just permanently run through the heater core. I am not completely sure how the valve works but I assume it controls the flow of coolant to the heater core. I remember going to Advance when I bought my new heater valve and he even said they don't make them like they used to. He said years ago those things used to be metal which is how they should be.

I can understand metal would be good, but I guess since it would be more expensive that is why they do not produce it. The plastic also isn't as hot to the touch as I bet metal would be but I don't see why that would be a consideration. The valve was probably plastic since factory production.
